For Blasphemy Day
I'm not up to posting much right now -- a flare-up of an old joint-inflammation problem means that I'm having to type mostly left-handed, which greatly slows me down. I hope you feel better soon! I’m one of those who didn’t have religion shoved at me growing up, and my natural inclination has always been toward “belief” in a cold, uncaring, atheistic universe. That can be depressing at times, so I get why some people want to believe in the supernatural. I don’t begrudge them that… as long as they don’t pester me about it. Lately, things have been fine in that area, but when I was younger, I was at times criticized by friends and coworkers for my lack of belief in a supreme being, not that I advertised it!

Paula: The problem is that religion is a deliberate scam contrived to subjugate and control people. Even if it doesn't affect me when other people believe what a con man tells them, it's not harmless. And in practice, when religion becomes organized on a large scale, you get things like Hamas and the Spanish Inquisition. It's a nightmare that humanity has been struggling for millennia to awaken from. I'm trying to do my part.

I didn't know it was Blasphemy Day. What a great idea. If people are secure in their religious beliefs, they shouldn't be bothered by anti-religious criticism. I rejected religion at a very early age.

Veronica: The great thing about the "New Atheism" is that people do feel more comfortable speaking out, and bluntly. Pat Condell is something of a role model to me in that.

From now until the finalization of the election results, no comments claiming the Republicans (or Democrats) will or can "steal" the election. It's pointless to engage with such stuff, and it promotes defeatism, which makes people less likely to vote or otherwise be politically active.
