Improving words (27)

Some more revised word definitions -- what the words visibly should mean, based on spelling.....

Bestowed:  It's better to be a creditor than a debtor

Brandish:  A deep plate for the hard outer layers of grain

Canton:  To fire employees with a total weight of 2,000 pounds

Cunningham:  A smart pig

Debris:  To reverse a Jewish circumcision

Discern:  To show contempt for the Large Hadron Collider

Endorsing:  Please either stop or burst into song

Familiar:  A person who tells untruths to his own family

Format:  In favor of a small carpet

Fungible:  Capable of being transformed into a fungus

Insinuate:  You were always in a state of immorality while eating

Intermittent:  To bury a tree-like Lord of the Rings creature wearing a baseball glove

Limpid:  Even the primordial instinctive mind is wimpy

Pageant:  A small insect who turns the leaves of your book for you

Permission:  For each voyage

Profundity:  In favor of an enjoyable song

Record:  To tie someone up again

Sextant:  Your French aunt who takes a special interest in you

Tireless:  A car or bike with bare wheels

Transparent:  A person who doesn't actually have kids, but self-identifies as having them

Upstart:  A fruit pastry delivered by the United Parcel Service

Or insinuate could mean you ate something taboo. Not even immoral, but against some rule of tribal identity.

And don't even try to glean some wisdom from such rules.

NickM: Whatevs, imperialist.

Mike: Unfortunately only the Postal Service is allowed to put things in mailboxes. UPS would just leave your tart on your porch each day to be stolen by passers-by.

Names are a pretty rich source for these, but they need to be common enough for people to recognize easily.
