"Your creation is malfunctioning again."

Cursed books for Halloween here.  It's less than a month away, so get in the mood -- in fact, at Scary Mary's place it's already here.  Lady M is getting her antique decorations ready, and starting the countdown.  Here's how to wish deaf people happy Halloween.

Nice snow sculpture (NSFW, found via Big Whack Attack, also NSFW).

Sixteen million dick pics?  Something suspicious here.

Rod Serling understood what distinguishes a good twist ending from a bad one.

It's a supervillain's lair (and looks grotesquely out of place there).

He wrote a complaint letter to the water department.

It's what Jesus would have done.

She's using concealed carry.

Your body is not a temple.

This is an ideal home.

Nice library (if you didn't know, Cardiff is in Wales).

Voenix Rising finds nightmare fuel from the past.

Bird's-eye view of things here.

Threats of Hell have their uses.

Halloween is an inversion festival like the Roman Saturnalia -- that's probably why it's becoming the most important American holiday.

Children of rich parents are not necessarily rich.

Why do people do these disgusting things to themselves? (repulsive image)

If the wingnuts are tired of being called bigots.....

We're seeing headlines about large numbers of workers being fired for defying covid-19 vaccine mandates, but in most cases these represent a tiny fraction of the company's total workforce -- see for example United Airlines and Novant Health.  These mandates are getting the job done, even in the military, and will improve work environments.  Leonard Pitts Jr expresses what most of us feel about the vaccine resisters.

This asshole worked for FedEx until recently.  It's not clear yet whether or not they fired him.

Massachusetts just drove away 750 well-paying jobs.

What if Trump had been gay?

Persecution!  Kent Hovind is being punished for behaving as the Bible prescribes.

POTS exists.  So do denialist assholes.

Bitcoin is becoming the currency of choice for the alt-right.

The Alabama coal strike is now six months old, as Warrior Met Coal remains intransigent.

Green Eagle looks at Gateway Pundit's lunatic coverage of the Arizona election "audit", and the broader insanity across the wingnutosphere.

Oral antivirals could be the next big weapon against covid-19.

The Christian forgiveness fetish is all about helping abusers and criminals escape accountability.

Disturbing allegations here of corruption in South Dakota.

If you're non-rich, the system is rigged against you.

"People who are actually oppressed, and know it, don't want to be oppressed; it's part of their circumstances, not part of their personal identity."

Amazon's AI cameras punish drivers for mistakes they didn't make.

An Idaho town hosts a disturbing fundie cult.

Illegal immigration is out of control and risks bringing back Trump or someone worse.  If the left keeps sticking its fingers in its ears and chanting "racist!" at anybody who complains, voters will just put the Republicans back in power.

Unjust laws should not be mindlessly obeyed.

Moline Skeptics looks at the covid-19 denialists.

Some revealing quotes from Hitler here.

Covid-19 is now becoming a pandemic of red, rural America (found via Hackwhackers).  Faster, please.  The denialists are resorting to violence against doctors' offices now.

The FBI has foiled a terrorist plot against a Missouri hospital.

Audit-addled Arizona wingnuts are now threatening officials for not taking action against the imaginary election steal (found via BBBB).  I've seen similar threats and calls for executions, etc in comment threads on Gateway Pundit.  Claims of election fraud are incoherent.

Women today are "in a bigger fight than the suffragettes".

Worker shortages are a good thing, not a bad thing.

Britain's Labour party (the main left party) is losing women voters, a serious problem.  If a party won't listen to its voters' concerns, they won't shut up -- they'll turn to whoever will listen.

Covid-19 is devastating this Australian Aborigine town.

France is facing an election, a questionable art installation, and too many sneakers.

This deserved a lot more than a mere suspended sentence.

Europe sweeps sex crimes under the rug.

Switzerland has overwhelmingly approved same-sex marriage in a referendum.

Yesterday marked one year since the murder of Jamal Khashoggi.

Afghanistan's only all-women radio and TV company has been shut down by the Taliban.

The Chinese regime throws the usual tantrum about a British warship sailing through international waters in the Taiwan strait.

China's real-estate colossus Evergrande is shutting down operations, and the regime is banning online discussion of the crisis.  The country's energy shortage is also coming to a head, though I'm skeptical about how bad it will get -- if the key problem is the regime's decision to stop importing coal from Australia, they could reverse that decision easily enough, at the cost of some humiliation.  I don't believe there will be a major rebellion.  The regime's iron grip on communications makes the necessary large-scale organizing impossible.

I love animals, my brother used to have a turtle that he rescued when it got hurt and took him to the vet. The turtle wouldn't leave his yard after that.

Thanks for adding my post to the mix. Halloween is probably my favorite time of year. I just wish it would cool down more already. I am ready for some cooler temps.
