About Me
- Name: Infidel753
- Location: Portland, Oregon, United States
Individualist, pro-technology, pro-democracy, anti-religion. I speak only for myself and not for any ideology, movement, or party. It has been my great good fortune to live my whole life free of "spirituality" of any kind. I believe that evidence and reason are the keys to understanding reality; that technology rather than ideology or politics has been the great liberator of humanity; and that in the long run, human intelligence is the most powerful force in the universe.

Wow, I didn't see that coming.
I couldn't open the site. What happened? Trolls?
I finally got onto her site.
I'm so sorry to see the creeps do that to another blogger.
Having gone through harassment over the past month myself --not nearly as awful as Jen reports-- I can tell you that it is discouraging.
I thought about stopping for a while as well. But I don't want the bastards to win either.
Almost three years ago, a blogger in Texas and his followers went after me, attacking who I was, and, yes, making sick sexual jokes about me as well.
No one deserves that treatment.
This is so discouraging.
It's a sickness in the conservative movement that they refuse to face.
John Loftis at "Debunking Christianity" threw in the towel as well, though other writers are picking up the gauntlet.
But yes, one can get burned out on blogging; particularly when one puts so much time, energy and research into the topic. In this era where information is fast, cheap and outta-control, one wonders if the miniscule impact is worth all the effort.
Other voices will rise to the cause; though the individuals may eventually tire and fade, the truth goes marching relentlessly on. She can be proud of her work, it's someone else's turn now.
Andy: I can't say I'm surprised. I've been reading about this problem for weeks now.
SK: It's maddening to lose such a good blogger over something so stupid. The atheist blogosphere must find a way to squelch this harassment problem, or we'll lose half our women bloggers.
RtS: The thing is, she didn't "tire and fade". She was hounded out of the atheist blogosphere by thugs. Atheist thugs. That's the issue we need to address.
Compare her hate mail to Richard Dawkins' hate mail -- no comparison the sexist crap is just low. It's part of why I've remained anonymous on my blog.
LA: A wise decision. Yes, when women are the target the crap takes on a whole extra level. Maddening, and atheists at least ought to know better.
Jen used to keep up such a brave front in the face of quite personal abuse. Shows that even when people are brave they can still feel hurt by mean comments. This shows how serious a problem internet trolling and bullying is.
