"Center-right nation" no more

Feast your eyes on this new map of the red and blue states as they are today.

I would advise caution here. This seems wildly optimistic to me. I can assure you that Virginia is not solidly Democratic. The only reason any Democrats win South of the Rappahanock is through running to the right of the national party; and often through Republican incompetence. The current Democratic candidate for governor is, mentally and ideologically, a conservative Republican in all but official party designation. I strongly suspect other states counted as "solid blue" are in a similiar situation.

Mendip -- I'm sure there's some truth to that, but you can't deny there has been a massive shift. The idea of Gallup polling data yielding such a map would have seemed unimaginable even just a year and a half ago.

It's not a fluke, either. I linked to a nearly identical red/blue map in January.

As for Republican incompetence, that seems to be an inexhaustible resource, at least for the present.

Shhh, don't tell my husband...he was born and raised in the only red county in California. He knows the power of Lalaland and SFO making the majority for democrats.

He might find that even that county is now purpler than it once was. No place is beyond the evil clutches of the reality-based community, bwahaha.
