There's not much to celebrate this Independence Day. But never forget that while reactionary belief systems old and new try to drag our own country backward, seeking to re-enslave women to that "animal cycle of reproduction", most of the world keeps moving forward. In the long run, progress will win out.

A hopeful message…
I am feeling pretty low about this issue so it would be nice if progress could pick up the pace a bit.
Mary: So I hoped.....
Lady M: The US is being pulled backward somewhat right now, or parts of it are, but my point was, the US isn't the whole world.
But it requires action. No half-measures, no masturbatory efforts to win over people who are clearly insane, no relying on the courts when you can just pass legislation.
In short, it requires the Boomer Dems to act against their nature.
Depends. Not all countries are even democracies. If you're talking only about the US (thus missing my point), some people are insane, but most people aren't. It is too commonplace in the US for the political-activist fringe to dismiss everyone who disagrees with them as insane. In most cases, it is indeed necessary to win over some voters who don't share your entire agenda. As for legislation, it depends what you mean. For example, it's not possible right now to "codify Roe federally", as some demand, because there aren't fifty votes in the Senate for it (Manchin is anti-abortion). Also, the Supreme Court could easily strike down such a federal law as soon as it was challenged. Short of enlarging the Court (which also doesn't have the necessary votes yet, though that could change after this year's election), there isn't a top-down solution to the loss of Roe.
To paraphrase an old adage: “From your [computer] to [wherever power resides…].
We and our computers are the only higher power available, unfortunately.....
