Anon: Please don't go off on the Arab-Israeli conflict. That's not what this is about.
This is fascinating..I agree the youth is a lot more accepting and knows the value of research more than older people. It gives me some hope for the future of humanity.
Now if we could just get on board in the US. It is a real problem here...religion, I mean.
The common thread: personal freedom.
#notallmuslims, am I right?
XOXO
I wonder if the people that would talk to him were the more liberal people. The conservatives are probably the ones that didn't want to talk.
I hope people will be sure to look at what is in the background in this video- a relatively prosperous city, much like many smaller cities in Europe. This was my experience during the time I spent in the West Bank- something that would, I think, surprise most people accustomed to see the life of Palestinians portrayed as one of hopeless poverty and squalor. Compare this to the rundown hovels that make up most of the Mississippi Delta to this day. We don't have so much to be proud of in the United States.
Mary: All over the Arab world, like in the US, younger people are less religious. It's a promising trend.
Sixpence: Muslims run the gamut from murderous fanatics to people who are barely religious at all -- rather like American Christians.
Mike: It's true that it's a self-selected sample. On the other hand, people who wouldn't talk to him didn't know what he was going to ask about, so I'm not sure that would mainly be the more conservative ones (except for women who wouldn't talk to a strange man at all).
Green: Yes, I noticed that too. A lot of the Arab world, including areas with no oil wealth, is a lot more developed than people in the US realize. Ramallah does look better than some places in the US.
