Impeachment -- hoping to be wrong
If this does proceed to actual impeachment and Trump does get removed from office by the Senate, I'll be much happier about being wrong on this point than I've ever been about being right on something. But I've seen too much of the spineless toadies who make up most of the Senate Republican caucus to feel optimistic about the outcome. When we're in a situation where the integrity of the republic depends on the honor and fundamental decency of Mitch McConnell, we're in the wrong situation.
(Here's a blogger who believes that enough Senate Republicans will vote for removal. I'm far from convinced, but read what he says for yourself.)
Especially if the economy gets worse, more and more people who aren't Trumpanzees are going to get annoyed that Congress is focusing on anything other than jobs. Trust me, I'm looking for a job right now myself, and it definitely looms much larger in one's mind than politics does.
Trump's behavior long, long ago blasted past any conceivable threshold of deserving impeachment and removal. Whether he deserves it is not the point. The point is what's actually doable. If the majority of the voters weren't convinced by all the shit he's already done, it's not obvious to me that they'll be convinced by the Ukraine scandal either.
But maybe I'm wrong. We'll see. One thing I do feel confident in saying is that Pelosi, all along, has had far more knowledge about the whole situation than any of her critics, and has far more political skill. If she does think this is the time to move, maybe she knows something the rest of us don't.

I'm with you. Hoping for the best, but I don't think there's any chance that McConnell and his boys let impeachment see the light of day.
I just hope the Democrats are smart enough to incorporate that into their campaigns... the Senate's dereliction of duty.
Trump and the Republicans will be crying "Exoneration!" We can't let that stick.
What the hell, it's worth a shot.
There will never be impeachment. I can only hope some serious proof comes about about more of his corruption and treasonous activities to turn some on the fence voters.
I think the election is rigged anyway with gerrymandering and voter suppression and the electoral college.
And the only really good candidate, in my humble opinion, is Warren and that she is a woman will go against her, in our patriarchal society of ours.
Bluzdude: I just hope the Democrats are smart enough to incorporate that into their campaigns... the Senate's dereliction of duty.
Indeed. The Senate majority will be the toughest nut to crack next November. We'll need all the tools we can put together.
Debra: Well, so long as it doesn't backfire and actually help Trump. It will need to be handled very carefully.
Mary: I don't think being a woman is that much of an issue. Hillary won the popular vote. Many people thought the country wouldn't elect a black president, but Obama got the highest popular-vote totals in history. Yes, there are lots of people who would never vote for a woman or a black candidate, but most of those people would never vote for any Democrat anyway, so it doesn't make much practical difference.
With Warren I'm more concerned about this business of abolishing private health insurance. I don't see how we can fail to lose the election if we go with that. Yes, most people would be better off, but most people don't believe they would be better off, and that's what determines how they vote. We need to run on a public option as an alternative to private insurance, not on abolishing the latter. We can't get anything done at all if we don't win the election.
He gets impeached, Michael Elizabeth Pence becomes president and pardons _____.
I'd rather the American people clearly vote his fat ass from office and then the state of New York goes after him, tries him, convicts him, and jails him ... along with his demon spawn.
But that's just me.
I want it to be E. Warren so badly. But agree the insurance is a real concern. Who ever heard of voters using their brain to fill in the little circles on a ballot?
I am excited about the impeachment possibilities. Cheering "Go Go Go." during the day. But awake in the middle of the night "Oh dear Oh dear Oh dear."
They'll never remove him, it takes 67 senators, too many traitors to America in the Senate for that.
I agree with your last paragraph. I don't think people give her enough credit and instead are so blinded by the idea of getting this JERK (and I'm being nice) out of office that they don't stop and think about the ramifications involved. Most of us are pretty ignorant when it comes to the TRUE workings of the Constitution. She isn't.
I waver between hope and despair, but maybe life is like the movies where eventually good triumphs over evil. Guess I am on the hopeful side today.
Bob: Good point. Getting him out of office is the most important thing, but if he's not prosecuted afterwards, it will send a message to future presidents that they can get away with unlimited criminality.
Adam: I think that's true, unfortunately.
Nan: It's been astonishing seeing all the bashing and name-calling Pelosi gets, from people who don't know a tenth as much about the situation or the system as she does. I'm already seeing a little of it starting up again, because she's not handling it in the exact way they want (and it's starting to dawn on people that an impeachment inquiry isn't an impeachment and may not ever lead to one).
Jono: I'm pretty optimistic about next year's election, at least. Where the impeachment thing goes is anyone's guess at this point.
"...maybe she knows something the rest of us don't."
I've thought the same thing. She's been reluctant to pull the impeachment lever for a while and then BAM! the whistleblower comes along and makes that move inevitable (I think Speaker Pelosi even said that).
Cliche' that this is, I'm cautiously optimistic.
I’m not for a Pence presidency *shudders* but I hope Cheeto goes to jail in disgrace.
I hope this time they can nail Cheeto. Eww that’s not a good image.
Nancy had been reluctant to go ahead and impeach that MoFo but I also think she’s got some tricks up her sleeve.
XoXo

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for this. I've always felt that Pelosi knows what the hell she is doing and has access to more information than her critics, including those on the far Left who, only a few days ago, were claiming that she was worse than Trump or, in one case, she was in the pocket of Russia.
Pelosi did not get where she was (and is now) because she was clueless about politics. Far from it--she's probably the best Speaker we've had in decades. And I really wish that all the people bashing her would remember that up until January 2019, Paul Ryan was Speaker of the House...and we got next to nothing in regards to investigating Trump.
Shaw: It's certainly been a game-changer. Trump's obvious panic is encouraging.
Sixpence: Pence would, at least, be a very weak president. He'd be leading a party bitterly divided over Trump's removal. And we'd still have the House while he's in office. Not much bad stuff would get through.
Marc: I'm glad that apparently there are others out there who realize this, even if they don't make as much noise as the hotheads. Most of the people coming up with these attacks on Pelosi seem to be ignorant or delusional or both.
