I was watching Doctor Who, an episode with Cybermen--people who have been "converted" into automatons, losing their empathy and individuality. It struck me that vampires and zombies and mindless consumers of corporate media and pop culture are alike. A huge function of the arts is to break through that zombiedom, e.g., Pink Floyd's "The Wall'.
