So long as the pictures were sent to a consenting adult, he didn't do anything wrong (stupid is another question), but still -- it's an embarrassment to all of us who were pretty much convinced he was framed.

So Weiner is a dick?
(sorry, it had to be said)
I wasn't convinced he was framed -- well, I suspected it, but my position all along was that I didn't really care whose wiener it was. I did think the tweet might have been fraudulent but I couldn't get over wondering how the fraud could have been perpetrated (i.e., how someone would get a pic of his junk to be sending around).
It actually would have been pretty easy to do that if you did have a picture.
I don't know what it is about cell phone cameras, but it seems to have brought out some basic urge in males to take pictures of their junk and send them to girls. As a girl on the internet, it's a bit bizarre to me how many times I've had to say, "I'm sure it's very nice, but please, please do not send me a picture of your penis."
Well said, LA!
And as I wrote on my own blog about this, how can Democrats like Weiner not know that the right wing smear machine has their lives under a microscope, looking for that weakness they can exploit? Weiner handed it to them on a silver platter.
really disappointed.... stupid stupid stupid.... &wrong
on the other hand.... it does not make what the Republicans are doing in State after State right.
... it does not discredit all Democrats.
Tommy: Exactly.
LA: I disagree. It did not have to be said.
I didn't get involved in this brouhaha because I've become weary of these Congress people making fools of themselves, Dems and Repubs.
This, again, takes attention away from our serious problems.
Weiner should resign. He has shown he has poor judgment.
Indeed, not criminal behavior but astonishingly stupid.
It can't be compared with the behavior of Republicans such as Gingrich, Craig, Ensign, Schwarzenegger, and so many others -- but it creates a distraction and damages the image of the party.
I'm inclined to think it would be better if he resigned, unless there's a real risk of a Republican getting his seat. It might bring the media distraction to an end. Besides, if he's done this, who knows what else he's done that might come out later and create another circus?

I hear about this from time to time, but it baffles me. I've never had the slightest impulse to do any such thing.

It's a rather safe Democratic district.
How can I follow you? I don't see a "Follow" or Google button?
TK: Then, if the media circus persists, he should consider resigning to make it go away. He's certainly shown monumentally poor judgment.
Charlene: There should be a "follow" button near the left end of the dark blue bar across the top, visible when you're logged into Blogger. Thanks for your interest.
If it comes out that he has also been sexually texting an underage girl, he's through and maybe faces criminal charges. These things have a trail and he was very naive, at best, to not realize that. The women he was contacting have no reason to protect him, and they are not with more and more coming out to share salacious details. I think he should resign but given his obviously monumental ego, he will only do that if he's forced.
Well, here I am - Ms Opposition. I don't think he should resign unless the ethics hearing discovers something I'd just as soon they didn't. But in the meantime, I'm disgusted with the hypocrisy from both sides of the aisle and the spinelessness on the part of the Dems. And I'm furious with the media and the stupid, tasteless jokes. Remember Ted Kennedy.
I'm not completely resolved that he should resign -- just if the media circus persists and becomes an obstacle to getting actual work done. The good of the country is more important than any one politician. And, of course, if there are actual criminal charges, he should definitely quit. This isn't someone who's going to end up homeless if he loses his current job.
As an example of what I mean by a distraction, look at this very post. It's a one-sentence throw-away which I almost didn't bother to put up -- I just felt I should acknowledge the confession since in the last link round-up I'd sided with those who claim Weiner was framed. Yet it's gotten more comments than most real posts do, and my number of page views today has been about twice normal. Even on this very blog, the Weiner business is turning into a distraction.

Really! Weiner's exploits are making us forget about what Charlie Sheen has been doing lately! :-)

Weiner should offer to resign on condition that Senator David "Diaper" Vitter resign first.
Did he do something wrong? Hell yes, he did. Many wrong things, in fact.
But did he do anything illegal? No evidence of that yet.
