Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI), who added the restrictive anti-abortion language in the original House HCR bill and is now threatening to lead a bloc of his supporters against it because the restrictions were removed, now has a challenger in the upcoming Democratic primary: Connie Saltonstall, a pro-choice progressive. Democracy for America is soliciting support for the challenge here.

Everytime I see Stupak's name I think it's an acronym of somekind - like stupid??? but that's as far as I can get. Will check out his challenger.
Maybe it's a Sovietologism for his anti-abortion bloc in the House -- the "Stupid Pack".
I'm very pleased that his amendment was removed from the health bill -- but how much better it would be if he himself were removed from the House (provided his replacement in a better Democrat and not a worse Republican).
More and more I find it practical to support candidates for office in other states, Rep. Grayson for instance, Rob Miller to defeat Joe Wilson -- it makes sense to seek out candidates who can really make a difference, whatever state they're running in. I only support locals (I'm talking financially) if they show a great deal of promise, or are involved in a very high-stakes race against truly awful opponents, otherwise, my vote will have to do.
Stupak has got to go, so I'll be heading over to Connie's donation page to do what I can.
Much could hinge on cases like this. I oppose voting against bad Democrats in general elections, since the opposing Republican will almost always be worse -- but supporting a better Democrat in the primary seems to be all upside, at least when that better Democrat has a good chance of winning in the general.
