Everybody loves cute animals.  Speaking of which, here's a whole tumblr of them.  For anti-cuteness, here's a cool Lovecraft alphabet video (found via Mendip).

They tried to bury us.....

Well sprayed, indeed.

Somebody dozed off.

Don't confuse me with facts!

Dead Logic makes the case for why "skeptic" is a better term than "atheist".

  1. The Lovecraft Alphabet was awesome in a retro, Ray Harryhausen tribute sort of way.

I was delighted to learn about the Islamic Declaration on Global Climate Change this week. Let's see what comes out of the Paris COP21 summit in a few months.

I worry about that suspended swimming pool -- I don't care if the glass is 20 cm thick. Who is to say that a strong storm couldn't shatter it, raining down broken glass on the street below?

The Jobsanger commentary piece on Social Security answered a nagging question for me: why do so many GOP candidates want to economically undermine their own voters by slashing social programs? The answer, as Ted notes, is because they answer to wealthy donors, not peons like us.

Rest in peace, Khaled al-Asaad. You devoted your life to knowledge, only to be executed by vicious, ignorant extremists.

  2. I hope the Islamic world will really get on board with the fight against global warming. Most of their countries are more than hot enough already.

raining down broken glass on the street below

Not to mention thousands of tons of water, a thoroughly lethal deluge from that height. And aside from storms, it's a natural target for terrorists or nutcases.

they answer to wealthy donors, not peons like us.

Hence the utility of social issues. "What's this about taking away my Social Security?" "Well I er uh um OHMYGOD LOOK FAGS ARE GETTING MARRIED WE'VE GOT TO STOP THEM!"

Hypatia is well remembered after 1,600 years, while the thugs that murdered her are despised and their names forgotten. The same will be true of al-Asaad.
