Video of the day -- the Iran deal
Found via Horizons, which also has a round-up of expert assessments. Progressive Eruptions has much more (my own view is in the comments there), and the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists endorses the deal. PM Carpenter looks at reactions from the wingnutosphere. Green Eagle reminds us of the likely costs of war with Iran, and of an episode that still shapes US-Iran relations even though most Americans know little about it. And Kaveh Mousavi has the view from Iran itself, important points you won't see cited in American sources.

On work days there is likely to be a substantial delay in approving comments, since I can't do blog stuff in an office. For this I apologize.
In their own way, the oil markets approved of the deal as well, as the Iran nuclear deal eases fear premium. Anything that promises to decrease tension and increase the the reliability of supply will lower prices, which is good news for an oil-consuming society and economy like ours. Of course, the frackers in the U.S. don't like this, as it's expensive to produce oil by fracking, but I'd be happy to have cheaper oil and less fracking, at least until we find ways to wean ourselves off oil.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much. This is very helpful to me to hear the president explain what this deal is all about.
ReplyDeletePinku: Most people with actual knowledge seem to favor the deal, and that would include the oil industry -- real information tends to trump ideology when making money depends on it.
ReplyDeleteFlying: Thanks. He did cover the bases well.
