Such charming people.
On the ninth test flight of Elon Musk's SpaceX "Starship", the "re-usable" booster blew up, the cargo doors failed to work so that test satellites couldn't be deployed, and the main ship went out of control and disintegrated during atmospheric re-entry (here's video of the debris). Yep, I'll be signing up for a ride to Mars on this thing, sure.
Put the media in their place by telling the truth.
A widely-circulated Eisenhower quote about military parades can't be verified in its exact wording, but does reflect Eisenhower's known views on the issue.

It has been six hundred days.
This writer gets it -- Democrats need to drop the gimmicks and identity politics and focus on the message of economic populism. And FFS stop pushing women out of the party -- Fetterman should be ashamed.
This is the kind of shit that for-profit healthcare produces.
Steven Pinker speaks out on Trump's war against Harvard.
It's a moral horror that the practice of putting male sex criminals in women's prisons, inevitably terrorizing women inmates, wasn't enough to end trans ideology.

Foreign tourism to the US is down 61% over the last few years.
Terrifying: this asshole techbro company has been running self-driving 18-wheeler trucks on Texas freeways, which must constitute reckless endangerment of the public at the very least. They eventually stopped at the request of the truck manufacturer, which presumably does not want its name linked to the disaster this would inevitably lead to.
Information about dealing with ICE is spreading around.
Real Republican policies are bad enough -- don't bother making up easily-debunked lies about them.

As always, you share a wealth of great info, that I adore. Hope you're doing well. Hugs, RO
Anything on the planets, solar system and the Universe really, is intriguing to me. There's so much out there and we know so little about most of it.
I hope you have a good week.
Good collection of links! Took me the better part of the day to go through them. I am always fascinated by depictions (in art) of everyday life from centuries ago. Enjoyed the engravings of Jacques Callot!

"Schumer going all out." Yeah, sure. I was thinking perhaps he wrote still another sternly worded letter and frowned impressively at the Republicans.
And what the hell happened to Fetterman? I admit I was 100% fooled into thinking he wasn't, well, what he is.
Enjoyed all of the little movies; I captured a few. I'm sure you appreciated the yearly orbits video showing Pluto among the planets.
RO: Thanks! Always good to hear from you.
Mary: Thanks. It's remarkable how much new we're finding out about the universe these days.
Rade: The Challot engravings do give a huge amount of detail about life back then.
Ami: Did you actually look at the link about Schumer?
Ricko: It would hardly be complete otherwise.....
I did look at the Schumer story. I don't disagree with what he's doing right now. Just wish all of the Dems would have been much louder and much more angry. None of our "representatives" understand how much harm is being done, they're all insulated and safe from any of it and it makes me angry.
Been a while since I've posted a comment here...thanks again for putting up some great food for thought.
--In regards to AI...yep, the whole power and water usage issue is NOT going away, and I am getting very tired of the excuses being made about it. And no need to worry--my art will always be AI-free. I'm also tired of being called a Luddite because I am against having the works of artists being taken from them without their permission just to fulfill some fantasy of techbros who apparently can't take the time to pay for a few art lessons.
--600 days since the massacres of October 7, 2023...and it is still horrifying to see the increase in antisemitism and the voices praising that day of horror.
Ami: If you've looked at the Schumer link, presumably you recognize that my description of him as "going all out" in this case is accurate. That's my point.
Marc: Glad to see you here again. I've been covering the "AI" issue in some detail for a while, and I'm well aware of how important the plagiarism issue is to many artists -- which is part of the reason I keep talking about it. It continues to waste vast amounts of energy producing nothing of value -- and since none of the "AI" companies are making any money from it, nor likely to ever, I expect the whole fad will eventually collapse like the dot-com bubble or Dutch tulip bulbs.
The rise of anti-Semitism is indeed horrifying. One could argue that as the Holocaust is passing out of living memory, the West is simply reverting to its historical patterns of anti-Jewish hatred which have existed for centuries. One can only be thankful that, now, the Jewish people at least have an independent country capable of serving as a refuge and defending its existence.
Infidel: I forgot to add this--I don't know if you've heard of Ed Zitron, but through his site and his "Better Offline" podcast he has been sounding the alarm about the house of cards that the Gen AI industry is. He is worth the read and the listen.
Zitron has had some excellent posts about "AI" -- I've linked to a few of them here.
