Video of the day -- quitters unite!

It's not only the US and China -- all over the world, millions of workers are quitting, and hundreds of millions more are planning to.  Rigid employers who try to go back to the old pre-pandemic ways of doing things are dinosaurs who haven't yet realized they're extinct.

Ohhh there's gonna be a reckoning.
I was reading that GenZ has reshaped many business models during the pandemic and that many, many managers are going to have to rethink their horrible ways. Hopefully the same with corporations and their business models...

XOXO

I wish them all the luck in the world.

Did she just contradict everything she said in her last 15 seconds?

Anyway, in the 90's companies started taking away benefits and medical after retirement. They stopped giving decent raises. They were mean to their employees. Along came COVID. People found out they didn't need two working adults. They figured out how to get along with less.

That said, I predict better retirement offers and retirement medical will come back. But even with that possibility, presently, companies like AT&T are still working at getting rid of any responsibility for retirees. They keep chipping away at what we have.

Sixpence: Hopefully so. And hopefully more than a few toxic managers who are driving workers away will join the ranks of the unemployed.

Ricko: The prospects are better now than at any other time I can think of.

Mike: No, she was just acknowledging that some people do have decent work situations and have no reason to quit. Most of the video is addressed to those others who aren't in that position.

Retirement benefits are badly eroded compared with a decade or two ago. Maybe companies will improve, but we really need to strengthen and expand Social Security and Medicare so retirees aren't dependent on the whims of corporations.

perhaps it depends? it's lovely that employers are finding they save money by letting employees work from home - win-win-win all over the place in terms of environment too, etc -- however, a friend who retired a couple of years ago from Federal Aviation Admin just got a letter saying her retirement money will be cut off much sooner than she expected...

definitely social security & medicare needs to be strengthened -- I'd much rather my taxes go to social welfare than bombs

This is a good thing. A "one size fits all" should never be the only way people can earn a living.

Daal: Unfortunately employer retirement benefits tend to be unreliable. Hence the importance of things like Social Security and Medicare.

If employers were smart, they'd see how much they themselves benefit from work-from-home -- but for many, management control-freakery seems to be a higher priority.

Shaw: Jobs and work environments will need to become more diverse, to fit the varying needs of people in different circumstances.

The fact that a lot of places can't find people to work for them should tell them something. Things have to change.

Some employers are getting the message and becoming more flexible, some aren't. In the long run it will be a kind of natural selection.

Yup. It's happening here in Hawaii too. People were not feeling safe. And yet we had a percentage of police and firefighters who refused to be vaccinated. Go figure.

Naturally people don't feel safe in jobs that involve in-person contact -- it isn't safe. There's no excuse for forcing that on people when it's not absolutely necessary.

Most hard-core anti-vaxers are right-wingnuts -- if the mandates are purging those types from the police force, that's a positive.
