A surprising number of people think like this. I used to. The fact is, in most cases you have no idea what's going on in the heads of all those people around you who outwardly appear to be mindless conformists. Image by XKCD.

I've noticed this. Especially when I've gotten to know really people in positions of public trust or well-known people, there's a tendency for them to eventually admit to me, "Oh, if everybody only knew what was going on in my head!" as though everyone else doesn't have some sort of internal life, too.
Some of us are just better at covering it than others.
True but I still hold on to the belief that at least 35% of the population is dumb as rocks

Conformity comes in many forms. Most, is not all, conform to something. Usually what they view as holding value for them..

That's certainly true. There's a video out there where someone is interviewing a young woman and asks her something about how she defines herself, and she replies, "I'm a millennial. We don't like labels."
