Must-read blog post of the day

Kaveh Mousavi demolishes the controversy, such as it is, over Fifty Shades of Grey.  Seriously, he's said everything that needs to be said on the subject -- I don't have a word to add.

Great review. I read a review of the book a couple of years ago that convinced me to not read it. Now this review confirms my decision to not see the movie.

Thank you for saving me from wasting a couple of hours. Instead, I'll watch another blizzard blow into Boston and bury what's left of the city.

I have lots of pinot noir and chocolate. I'm fine. Bring it on Neptune! You son-of-a-beyoootch!

A well written review, but may I suggest that you can say everything you need to say about Fifty Shades of Grey in two words:

"Who cares?"

Shaw: Chacun à son goût.

Green: Who cares? Fifty or a hundred million people do; like it or not, it's a major cultural phenomenon. Not everything important is political. In fact, most important things are not political.

Of concern to the BDSM community is the flood of newbies who have no clue of consent run into predators. Rape is easy to hide in a veil non consensual consent.

Connie: I think Kaveh covers that point pretty well in his post. And lots of things could be used to facilitate or disguise crime.

PS: I should mention that I haven't seen the movie or read the book, and don't plan to -- it doesn't sound like my kind of thing. But calls for boycotts tend to rub me the wrong way, and efforts to blame problems like violence or abuse on books or movies even more so. Kaveh covers the necessary points well.
