Quote for the day

"Last year, the sop to the American people was the promise of a fence on the border. This year, the big question is: 'Where is the fence?' That will still be the question ten years from now, if we let the politicians soothe us with words."

Though I doubt the effectiveness of a fence, especially one without proper human reinforcement, that is a wise quote. Empty promises sure are pretty.

There's empirical evidence that barriers work. The barrier fence which Israel is building to block access from the West Bank isn't even finished yet and it has reduced suicide bombings by something like 90%, even though fanatically-religious terrorists are presumably even more motivated than illegal aliens.
