Video of the day -- fire hazard
If Elon Musk's Teslas are notorious for spontaneously bursting into flame, what happens when the country with the world's crappiest building standards tries its hand at the same kind of technology? From 1:50 to 3:55 is an ad, if you choose to skip it.

On work days there is likely to be a substantial delay in approving comments, since I can't do blog stuff in an office. For this I apologize.
Not quite ready for prime time are they. I wonder how many space program disasters they’ve hidden, as the Soviets did. And perhaps their military isn’t so daunting either, if this is their manufacturing standards. I also read Beijing imports 80% of its foreign-made military kit and technology from the Russians (!). While vigilance is called for, the Taiwanese might not be quite so frightened, as it sounds like a lot of that Chinese weaponry might spontaneously combust too.
ReplyDeleteTo be fair - a lot of military kit is meant to spontaneously combust ;-)
ReplyDeleteTaiwan is safe from an all out PRC invasion. And that is down to geography as much as anything. Does the PRC have any real experience of mounting such an operation? Does anyone over that distance? How many anti-ship missiles does Taiwan have?
Reaganite: I'd certainly hate to be in a Chinese space rocket. I get the impression the problems with Russian military tech are largely due to lack of maintenance, but China is notoriously bad at that too.
ReplyDeleteNickM: If China were to bombard Taiwan with Chinese-made electric cars, I'm sure Taiwan would be burned to the ground very quickly. Seriously, though, While I don't know much about Chinese vs Taiwanese military capabilities, the fact that the Taiwanese, Japanese, and US governments are at least somewhat worried about an invasion suggests that there's some ground for concern.
YIKES! This is just downright scary and unnecessary! There have to be some more reasonable thought processes to avoid something like this! Anywho, I just stopped over to say hello and to let you know I'm thinking about you, and wishing you well. It's always so wonderful to see your perspective on things in life. GIANT Hugs, RO
ReplyDeleteRO: Great to hear from you again! Your blog is still missed. I hope you'll consider returning to it someday, though I can understand if your focus has moved elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, the corruption and lack of accountability that pervade China lead to incompetence in almost everything, and in cases like this, the consequences can be terrible. I don't recommend buying anything that comes from there.
Well that's not good.
ReplyDeleteScary stuff. Wouldn't even want one of those parked anywhere near my own car.
