Bring it on

So now we know the identity of Biden's running mate and, very likely, our country's 47th president.  Electoral-Vote has a good overview of the choice, which won widespread acclaim from anti-Trump forces across the spectrum.  So far I've seen surprisingly little caviling from the usual ideological purists, despite occasional grumbling in the past that Harris's history as an attorney general was "problematic".  No doubt the Russian/Republican trolls will provide them their talking points soon enough; it remains to be seen how many will take the bait.

Our explicit enemies, of course, have shown no such restraint, wasting no time in denouncing Harris as an abortion-backer, an enemy of religion, and an ultra-leftist.  There have also been some less-adult responses, and I've seen occasional comments that Harris is "not a natural-born citizen" (???) and "slept her way to the top" (an apparent reference to her earlier relationship with Willie Brown).

But we always knew that no matter whom Biden chose, the enemy's reaction would get very ugly very fast, with rank-and-file wingnuts quickly sinking into the ooze of the special misogynistic filth that the orange vulgarian they follow has legitimized for deployment against women specifically.  Bring it on.  After three and a half years of the Trump shit-show, we can endure three months of their rhetorical diarrhea if it helps drive even more women voters (and men with post-Neolithic values) out of their tent.  And Harris is a fighter.  She knows how to hit them hard without sinking to their level.

We'll see who has the last laugh in November.

I am all for Kamala.
The petty, little men on the Right will come for her (she's a cop but she hates cops, she's not too liberal but she's to the left of Bernie, blah, blah, blah). She's probably ready for the sexist, racist comments (Tucker mispronouncing her name, the whispers of her sleeping her way to the top, blah, blah, blah). They're scared of her.
What I'm living for is for the moment she'll skin Mike Pence alive in a debate. Now, THAT will be fun.

XOXO

"an abortion-backer, an enemy of religion, and an ultra-leftist." Response... So what's the bad stuff?

You made me look up a word. Caviling? I can't wait to call someone a caviler.
And maybe even a pettifogger.

Kamala is a top-shelf, black-belt level litigator, orator and debater. Pence will probably decline to face her. I half expect the Tangerine Tyrant to dump him for Nikki Haley.

I'll have more details on this soon, but the Republican response seems to be two-sided. At the same time, they are trying to convince progressives that she is an out of control cop that wants to throw every black person in prison, and for everyone else, that she is a far left wing Communist who wants to destroy the country. We'll see how long they can keep this up, as currently nobody but their wingnut dupes seems to be paying much attention to it.

Not to devalue Harris, but pretty much ANY female, particularly one able to speak coherently for more than 10 seconds, was guaranteed to drive Trumpanzee crazy. It's difficult to imagine Trump or Pence actually participating in events where there's actual debate on substantive subjects. I could see them claim Covid19 concerns(!) And insist on some sort of scripted, recorded, sound bite opportunity.

Sixpence: Oh, I'd love to see her take Pence on. He'd be like a dinosaur facing the onrushing meteor of extinction.

Mike: I had the same thought. To sane people that stuff isn't scary. They're calling her evil and Satanic, though.

Isn't a pettifogger a device for delousing petticoats?

Dave: Well, two Indian-American VP candidates would be a novelty, but the fundies and racists would go bonkers.

Green: They're all over the place, all right. I think it's a sign of desperation.

Kwark: If they were smart they'd try to get out of debating. Of course, they are not smart.

Infidel, I agree with you. It is a sign of desperation. None of their standaard smears seems to be making a dent in Biden's poll numbers, and they won't, because it is not about Biden, but about someone who is not Trump. We'll see just how far Barr and Durham will go with a pack of lying indictments of Obama officials just before the election, which is my main worry right now, but even that may not stick.

Assuming Pence is stupid enough to try to debate Harris, how can I obtain the national popcorn concession?

Howdy y'all!

There is some small comfort in realizing that Trump has displayed his usual level of incompetence in not being prepared for her inevitable nomination. While it was never a foregone conclusion, she was the most likely choice since she dropped out of the primaries. They've had plenty of time to do their oppo research and prepare their ads. I'm surprised the anti-Harris ad that they ran wasn't more generic with an obvious audio edit of Kamala Harris in the narration. I guess he was just too busy laying the groundwork for this authoritarian power grab or too confident in its success to bother with running a competent campaign.

Huzzah!

Green: I think if they had anything remotely indictable about Obama (or Hillary), they'd have run with it a long time ago.

JackieSue: That's going to be fun.

Crank: Having that would be even more fun.

Calico: Well, he never seems to prepare for anything, so there we are. The wingnuts' anti-Harris campaign is already gross as hell, though.

Shaw: If I remember correctly, there was a surge of almost $11 million in donations in the four hours after the pick was announced. It seems to have energized a lot of people.
