From Dr Nicholas Peluso, an ICU doctor in Tulsa:
I am mentally and physically exhausted. I lived through hell this week. My team is stretched beyond thin. So many sick and dying, all from a "hoax". A bloated ruse to "microchip" and control you. This isn't a warning. This isn't a lecture. This isn't "fear-mongering". This is reality. This is where we are. I'm done.
Please don't ask healthcare workers what to do. There isn't anything to do but hope. Hope that this thing doesn't kill hundreds of thousands more. Hope that you or your loved ones don't get it. Hope that it's over soon. Hope that our lives can continue.
The time for preparation is over. This country did everything wrong and now we see the consequences. Believe WHATEVER you want. I genuinely do not care. I don't have the strength or the time to waste arguing.
But mark my words and mark them now. If healthcare workers get sick, this is over. If we fail, so do you. There is no plan B. We have no army of healthcare workers waiting to take our places if and when we make ourselves sick caring for you and your loved ones. It. simply. isn't. there.
So, I wish this nation luck. I wish my colleagues health and some sort of rest during this nightmare. Most of all, I wish for a nation that trusts its scientific and healthcare communities, listens to suggestions, and heeds warnings.
We are tired. We are worn out. We are your healthcare. If you've never needed us before, good for you. If you've been through something awful where you needed us and we were there for you, I hope you got the best care and recovered. If you find you need us in 6 to 10 weeks, I hope we will still be able to care for you and we won't be taking up those ICU beds with our own sick bodies.
I fear we've already lost. This is not the nation I grew up in...

On work days there is likely to be a substantial delay in approving comments, since I can't do blog stuff in an office. For this I apologize.
This says it all.
ReplyDeleteSo sad and so pathetic that this new spike in cases and deaths is driven by the stupid Trumpanzees who wrap themselves in a flag they don't care about and a constitution they've never really read or understood to cry wolf.
ReplyDeleteNo, the local governments are not coming for their freedom, they're trying to save lives. Many states opened too soon, to lick Cheeto's ass. These are the consequences and the burnt of the weight is on health care workers. As if the health care system in America weren't fucked up to start with... SMH.
XOXO
Yes, this is quite a read, I looked the doctor up, so take it as legit. And I myself seen several doctors in news clips who were explaining how difficult it is on them and their crews. Honestly, I can't find words in short here, to describe how incompetent our government is, and been on this pandemic, I have lost much respect in the last few months for my country and government. And in particular, the President ... it's unbelievable. I believe that Trump is just totally f*cked up mentally too, and even when folks like Fauci try to make some common sense, Trump and his crew just attack and attack ... he is SO UNREASONABLE in every respect (Trump). I can't believe that he is actually like this ... he was such a pop culture type guy, celebrity type, with a game show, etc ... even though I never followed him, he was even friends with many of our so called liberal icons in his private life, and admired by so many.
ReplyDeleteDebra: The guy's being honest. Health-care workers are being driven beyond endurance.
ReplyDeleteSixpence: Exactly. It's their stupidity, devastating not only them but everybody else. I'm angry too, at being put in danger by their refusal to face reality.
Ranch: I guess it turns out that having an emotionally-stunted con man in charge of the federal government during an emergency is a bad idea. Who could have guessed?
I apologize, but I had to remove the last sentences of your comment, as I believe they would likely have been in violation of certain laws. I'd rather not deal with that. If you prefer the comment to be completely deleted rather than posted partially, let me know.
Good afternoon, how are you? I am Brazilian, from Rio de Janeiro and looking for new followers for my blog. And I will follow yours with pleasure. New friends are also welcome, no matter the distance.

I think the COVID denialism is more about the election than the virus.
ReplyDeleteThe head of the CDC said we could make the virus go away in 4 to 8 weeks if everyone just wore masks.
I called the hospital where the doctor works. He's a hospitalist so you can't get ahold of him. But he is real. The hospital passed me to the marketing department. I had to leave a message. He has a FB page but I didn't find this post on it. This is a great post.
That's flippin' sad but I understand the sentiment.
ReplyDeleteThis is so sad that a minority of the nation is too selfish to give a shit about the greater good and is making this hell for the healthcare workers.
ReplyDeleteInfidel,
ReplyDeleteI beg to differ.
I'm 62, and, sometime during "Baby Doc" Bush's 1st term, the realization that I came to was, "This IS exactly the nation I grew up in!"
I was just a bit late coming to realizing it.
Mike: I don't think they even know themselves what it's really about, in many cases. They're just incoherently angry and resentful of experts.
ReplyDeleteMary K: The discouragement and frustration of health workers these days must be almost unendurable, seeing their efforts constantly sabotaged by mass stupidity and bad leadership.
Lady M: That's exactly what they're doing. It's like lighting up a cigarette in a crowded elevator.
Victor: It's true enough that the "stupid one-third" has always been there, but they're more blatant and visible now -- and the virus has made the consequences of their stupidity a lot more serious.
Luiz's blog is in Portuguese and is mostly photos, if anybody wants to check it out.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry Infidel, as far as the last of the comment, I didn't think about it being a problem, but perhaps it may have ... just best you deleted that part then
ReplyDeleteI'm grateful I live in a state that took Covid-19 seriously. We were one of the hardest hit. Our governor and the mayor of Boston made a plan and a majority of our citizens complied.
ReplyDeleteWe stayed home; we went out only for necessisties; restaurants, bars, shops, etc., closed. Masks on everyone. Even today. when I'm out for those necessisties, everyone, young and old alike, have their masks on. On April 24, infection case number was 5,000. Today were down to 200. Social distancing, masks, washing hands, and not being stupid has succeeded in getting those numbers down. We're not out of the woods, as they say, but we're doing better than those states who think wearing a mask is tyranny and Covid-19 is a hoax.
The malignant narcissist in the Oval Office could have saved thousands of lives if he had only shown leadership simply by wearing a mask. I knew in 2015 that he was going to be disastrous for this country.
Ranch: Thanks for your understanding. I just don't want to take any chances.
ReplyDeleteShaw: Sounds similar to Oregon. It's very rare now to see someone out in public with no mask. Our infection numbers aren't as bad as some places, and our medical system hasn't been overwhelmed. What a nightmare to work as a doctor or nurse in one of the moron parts of the country where there's nothing to stop the plague from raging out of control.
