On work days there is likely to be a substantial delay in approving comments, since I can't do blog stuff in an office. For this I apologize.
With all this attention on the Pope's visit, has anyone else noticed how one half of humanity is under-represented or not represented at all? At some point the RCC will have to explain why women cannot be priests. Afterall, you don't need a specific set of genitals to study and learn theology. The RCC is still anchored in an old, old tradition of keeping women as second-class citizens. Personally, I have no interest in any religion, but especially religions that believe women cannot be leaders, even if their "sacred" texts say little or nothing about excluding women.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed these! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteShaw: To the Abrahamic religions, women are essentially domesticated animals and breeding stock. The Betty Bowers citations convey the true spirit of the Bible pretty well, and the Koran is no better. As best I can tell from history, the concept of women as persons in their own right is of ancient Roman (pagan) origin -- Christianity and Islam have always frowned upon it.
ReplyDeleteAhab: Thanks! They do get the points across.....
