Link round-up for 13 June 2026

Various interesting stuff I ran across on the net over the last week.

o o o o o

There are angels at work.

".....but we'd die more awesomer."

Let Dave Barry help you plan your summer vacation.

Clean car, clean dog.

It's rare that you see synchronized mistakes.

If you're going to be a bad driver, be really bad.

Stupidity and ladders are a bad combination.

What would a dog and a wolf say to each other?

These abominations are African catfish.  Which are large.  And I have no idea what the hell this is.

"Sometimes the wolf cries girl."

See how big all that stuff out in space actually is.

Levels of toxic "forever chemicals" in seabird eggs near the St Lawrence Seaway have declined sharply, showing that tighter regulation is succeeding.

Smoke from wildfires affects the brain, leading to increases in violent behavior and inhibiting learning.

Humans have an innate preference for turning counterclockwise.  It's curious that we didn't therefore design our clocks to run that way.

Here's how courtyard blocks foster social connection -- and why Europe has them and the US doesn't.  The contrast between the European and US photos in the article is startling.

Real doctors are now releasing their own vaccination guidance, bypassing RFK Jr's anti-vax quackistocracy at the CDC.

There is a recall under way of certain baby wipes from Target due to possible microbe contamination.

Read this and consider whether you still want to entrust "AI" with anything important.

"Just 3 words:  you are not alone."

Here's a new thing you need to fix if you still use Windows 11.

Technical innovation opens up new possibilities for road piracy.

Macho looksmaxxingtards are injecting themselves with extra testosterone believing it will make them more masculine, but instead are suffering the most appropriate possible consequence -- bollock atrophy and plummeting sperm count.

The Catholic Church just fired one of its exorcists for saying that UFOs are demons.  But the real story here is that the Catholic Church still has exorcists.  And believes in demons.  In the twenty-first century.

Here's what it's like dealing with the rich.

Google's CEO is gaga for "AI", but the actual workers are ridiculing it.

PepsiCo is deploying driverless delivery trucks in certain states.  If you're among the first people killed by one of these, remember that at least you died for the noble cause of putting truck drivers out of work.

Dogs are becoming seriously more aggressive and dangerous.  Problems with training puppies during the covid pandemic are probably to blame.

"But this was never how refugee crises were resolved anywhere else."

Here's what slavery in the old South was like -- in the words of a slave owner (disturbing).

It's amazing how people lie about things that are easily checked.

This New Jersey snack company, realizing everybody hates "AI"-generated ads, took its advertising low-tech instead.  It seems to be working.

A new book reveals how panicked Trump and his toadies were about the Epstein files coming out.  Remember that, in fact, almost no real information has been released yet.  The cover-up has, so far, been successful.

Meet Lawrence Lowell, an early exponent of DEI.

Here's an example of how propaganda sometimes works.  Always be wary and check things, so you don't get fooled.

Last month, solar power overtook coal as a source of electricity in the US, despite Trump's desperate efforts to boost the declining coal industry.

The Massachusetts "millionaire tax" has brought in much more revenue than expected.

A lawsuit alleges that a fifteen-year-old schoolgirl wrestler in Washington state was sexually assaulted by a boy pretending to be a girl during a match, and that state officials have been foot-dragging and obfuscating in response to complaints.  See video here -- not explicit, but disturbing when you realize the person on top is actually a boy.  The usual bullshit denialism is already being trotted out, but doesn't seem to be fooling anyone.

Elon Musk is now, technically, a trillionaire, though that's mostly because of the on-paper value of his SpaceX stock, which won't survive the inevitable "AI" bubble collapse.

Investigators are looking into Bill Gates's ties with Epstein.

Tomorrow there will be a No Kings rally in celebration of the First Amendment.

The CEO announces that there will be no raises because he spent all the money budgeted for raises on "AI" instead.

A lesbian has some observations about Pride Month.

The Nazi tattoo guy's former campaign political director speaks out.

The lawyer who defended Ken Paxton during his impeachment trial has endorsed Talarico.

Thank goodness this particular billionaire won't be governor of California.  Not that I have high hopes for whoever will.

Analysis shows that the "Trump Mobile" is, as expected, a cheap Chinese phone with an even cheaper gold paint job.

The Jeff-Bezos-owned Washington Post is being sued for using surveillance pricing.

The claims that "AI" could destroy civilization are just another marketing scam.

Doctors in Utah are being forced to adapt to rapidly growing measles outbreaks as vaccination rates drop.

Lawyers in Mississippi were caught using "AI" by an infuriated judge.  They got fined and sanctioned, but really, lawyers who use "AI" need to be disbarred for life.  They're defrauding their clients, who paid for competent legal representation.

Mamdani is being sued for refusing to hand over documents related to several of his anti-Jewish or anti-Israel actions.

Virginia's new assault weapons ban goes into effect on July 1.  Gun sales are surging in advance of the date, and many local officials are saying they'll refuse to enforce the law.

Trump wants you to invest in the "AI" boom.  You'd be better off with Dutch tulip bulbs.

Maryland is the first state to ban surveillance pricing.

These assholes think they're above the law.

"But the one data point that you should know is that the stock market is now the most overvalued in history, more so than 2000 or even 1929."

Trump's last medical exam was carried out by an unprecedented twenty-two specialist doctors.

This year's "Walk with Israel" event in Toronto attracted more participants than ever before.  If evil is becoming more energized these days, so is good.  Here are some photos (note the Iranian resistance flags).

Tremulous, quavering jellyfish at a UK museum are putting warning stickers on books that reflect supposedly "outdated" views.

Gays are now being reframed as the bad guys.

This pedo who sexually abused his own daughter for nine years has been paroled after just half his sentence.  The victim was not even allowed legal counsel to contest the decision.

Scotland's axe-and-knife girl (whose name has not been given out in the media) has been vindicated as the migrant who attacked her and her friends is found guilty.  The girl's courageous defense gave rise to viral memes such as this one and this one among the resistance.

British voters are angry and demanding change, with support rising for the nativist Reform UK party.

"When governments become sclerotic and unresponsive, violence becomes the only way of reaching them."  People's patience is running out, all over Europe.  Pictures here (scroll sown a bit).

"It is simply no longer sustainable to force working-class communities to endure such levels of terror, to bear the brunt of the elites' open-door experiment."

The German political establishment, represented by chancellor Merz, are practically crapping their pants in terror as voters abandon them in droves to support the new nativist AfD party.  Listen to your voters and stop the damn mass immigration, dumbasses.

Speaking of which, this asshole can STFU.

Yakutia in Siberia is Russia's "diamond capital".  And it looks like a slum.

Russia is using ordinary civilians cars to deliver fuel to the front line in Ukraine, since its military fuel trucks keep getting blown up.

See the aftermath of new Ukrainian attacks in the Leningrad region (yes, it's still called that, even though the name of the city was changed to St Petersburg).

Driving a Russian van full of explosives is not a safe job.

Ukraine has been absolutely hammering the Russians in occupied Donetsk.

An oil depot burns in Ust-Labinsk in the Krasnodar region.  And this one is in occupied Crimea.

One rocket in this Russian barrage failed to launch, but evidently still detonated.

Russia is losing the war thanks to Ukraine's remarkable capacity for technological innovation.  It's time for the US to help Ukraine finish the job.

As Tel Aviv's annual gay pride parade begins (just try that in any Islamic country), police have already thwarted a threatened anti-gay attack.

Missile launchers are legitimate targets no matter where they are.

Trump claims to have reached a "deal" with the Iranian regime which would leave it in power to rearm itself for future attacks on Israel and the West and to continue terrorizing the Iranian people.  Of course, you never know with this guy.  There are already signs of rejection from more hard-line elements within the fractured regime, and yesterday there were serious disputes between Trump and people claiming to speak for the regime about what the deal consisted of.

My own posts this week:  some truths and inspirations, a video on cheating death, and my review of Les Leopold's new book on how to build a viable economic-populist third party.

o o o o o

Just in case it needs saying:  I will never use any form of "AI" in any part of the process of writing this blog, no exceptions.

o o o o o

Democratic primary voters in Maine went ahead and nominated the Nazi tattoo guy, echoing the blunder of their Texas Republican counterparts two weeks earlier.  Now it's up to general election voters to re-assert basic decency by electing Talarico and (Satan preserve us) Collins.  Predictably, neither party's leadership has had the integrity to repudiate its respective disgusting candidate.  They care only about winning, even if it means electing scum.

o o o o o

Trump's craven hypocrisy was on full display this week.  After crudely and insultingly ordering Israel not to retaliate for Iranian and Hezbollah attacks on its territory, he immediately retaliated after a US helicopter was shot down.  Netanyahu defied Trump and retaliated anyway, and he should continue to do so.

Whoa, so much great stuff this week, Infidel! First, thank you for the link to my story.

“Die more awesomer” = hilarious

“Wolf cries girl” = lovely

Counterclockwise is interesting. Don’t animals do this too when going to sleep, particularly dogs?

Bobby isn’t merely a quack, but an evil lunatic who has already caused a lot of pain via his anti vax nonsense and promotion of raw milk.

I am not understanding why saying that UFOs could be demons is a bad thing in Catholic thinking…

It is weird about the constancy of antisemitism over the centuries. If you believe in “something beyond,” you might think it’s a way of keeping the Jewish communities cohesive, except of course when they’re completely destroyed…

I am disappointed in anyone who supports Platner or Mamdani. I generally vote blue, but I wouldn’t vote for either of them!

I enjoyed the little movies, especially that cute little blue fish.

I would never use AI to write my blog posts either.

That dog at the car wash is so darn cute.

Those fish looked like catfish as far as I could see them. Weird looking fish.

That blue see through one staring straight into my soul, was kinda cute though.

Paula: Thanks for the dog/wolf post, it was interesting.

I didn't know that about animals (going counterclockwise). Maybe it's a general tendency of animals, not just of humans.

RFK Jr is probably the most damaging feature of Trump's current presidency. There are rumors that he's going to quit in July. Hopefully Trump can find someone competent to replace him.

Catholic theology is very weird and nitpicky. I don't know if you heard about this incident. So who knows what's the basis for their ideas about aliens.

I actually think it's quite possible than aliens and demons might be essentially the same thing.

I think a god could come up with a better way of ensuring ethnic cohesion than persecution. But of course it's just human psychology at work. Once anti-Semitism became entrenched in the Middle Ages it became very hard to change or eradicate, and still is.

There was a time when no self-respecting Democrat would have supported Platner or Mamdani. There was a time when no self-respecting Republican would have supported Trump or Paxton. The political fringe has become debased and lost its principles -- "vote blue no matter who" is just "my country right or wrong" repackaged for party politics. We can't change them but I hope we can ultimately bypass them.

Ricko: That fish is weird. I wonder how big it is. With sea creatures it can be hard to tell.

Mary: Who on Earth would read a blog with "AI" in it? What I want from a blog is the distinctive individual voice and interests of the author.

That dog has clearly learned to take advantage of the car wash. I guess they just let him. He isn't bothering anyone.

A lot of fish are weird looking. Amazing to me that some people actually eat things like that.

The turning counter clockwise thing is interesting (I'd all ready read it). The effect seems small and so was the study. But... three things are interesting. It was real empiricism and not a simulation, it was carried out in Spain and Japan and in Spain they drive on the right and in Japan on the left... hmm... Finally, I at first thought this is the sort of science that is "interesting" but "not important". Then I read it could be useful for the design of public spaces (and emergency exits). Now that does make it important because even if the effect is small when you multiply that by the billions of people that involves every day then...

According to Google Lens... It's a Sea Angel (Gymnosomata). They are a type of predatory sea slug found in tropical waters. I think it's cute!

Good roundup of links today!

- I am numb that... of ALL the frickin idiots the Maine Dems could have come up with, they chose Platner to go against Collins. Un-fucking-believable! I guess David Duke is now looking to restart his campaign?

- Bravo to the Massachusetts Millionaires tax! That sends a very strong message to the rest of the country.

- I honestly do see two distinct AI camps; those who succumb to it, and those who do not. Much like MAGA or not-MAGA, it's going to come down to a societies willingness to, like, open their eyes and pay attention.

- Dogs. I think a dogs aggression is a reflection of the environment they are raised or trained in. I've owned several dogs (no longer my preference in pets) that I trained to be quiet, be calm, be gentle. It was not rocket science. It was nurturing, communicating, engaging. ...and took effort. Like the saying goes, having a dog is like having a toddler, having a cat is like having a teenager.

- I liked the write-up on the piracy potential with the Wi-Fi tow hook. Frankly, I am waiting for the piracy to infiltrate the AI self-driving vehicles. I can see that coming in the very, very near future. Semi-trucks on the road, suddenly taken over and used as weapons. That's next.

- I will always follow my doctor's advice on vaccinations! Over a decade of trust with her.

- I like the concept of courtyard blocks. "Moving with Mitchell" often explores those areas in the region of Spain where he and his husband live. Always just so... calming.

- My gosh! I have not read DAVE BARRY in YEARS!!! Thank you for the post! Loved ever bit of it!

And on that, my first mug of coffee is done, and I am going to get on with my calmer Sunday.

As always, many thanks for this feast of information.

--Space truly is so...vast, as that video shows. So vast that it is hard to really take it all in. Still amazing to see, though.

--Thanks for posting the article about Lawrence Lowell. I have been following Pat's site for some time now, and I had read this piece a few days ago.

--Just turned off that Typing Insights feature--thanks for pointing it out.

--Ukraine will beat Russia. That's it, that's the take.

--Also, thank you again for the kind words about my art on Cara! I will be posting more soon.

Looking forward to next week's smorgasbord!

NickM: Who knows who comes up with these names. To me, "angel" is the last thing that would come to mind when looking at that.

Rade: Exactly. All these cretins we're getting can't be the best they can get. Maybe nobody good wants to go into politics any more?

The billionaire-owned media are always deluging us in claims that taxing the rich will be A Bad Thing for various reasons. When somebody actually does it, it turns out fine.

I hope that when the "AI" bubble collapses all this crap just goes away and I never have to see any of it again.

Excellent point about semi-trucks getting hacked. I'm sure terrorists and the usual misanthropic weirdos are already looking into it.

Doctors aren't always right, but you're better off following their advice about vaccines than the advice of some nutbag who "does their own research", meaning goes looking for YouTube videos that agree with what they already believe.

Marc: The size of space is difficult to fathom. Light takes just over one second to travel from the Moon to Earth, but when the light we see from the galactic center left those stars, there were still neanderthals on Earth.

I believe Ukraine will beat Russia. When it finally happens it will be probably the most celebration-worthy event to happen in my lifetime.

Thank you for continuing to post your art. I know how much work it takes, and how discouraging it can be in this (hopefully short) age of "AI".
