Blogging note

I've been meaning to write some more substantive posts, but my brain is just not up to it.  For almost two weeks now I've been dealing with a very bad noise problem from the new tenant(s) in the apartment next door, and have not yet been able to get the building management to do anything decisive about it.  The noise has played hell with my already-chronic insomnia problem.  I also got called in to a new temp job as of yesterday; it's just yesterday and today plus a few (probably short) days next week, but I'm not able to be choosy at this point.  So that's using up what energy I have left.  The weekend should be better. If I can get them to do something about the noise.

Oh I know that torture! I live in a ranch house in a suburban neighborhood but my one neighbor is a MAGA jerk who lives to be annoying. My neighbors across the street told me that the people who lived in my house before me put the house on the market after only one month after he moved in next door ~ they had planned to stay here until their kids were out of school. He has bad divorce written all over him. & he's mean to his dog, too. This is information I wish I had before I bought this house! OH WELL!!! I suffer from insomnia too, so I know what you're going through. Good luck on the temp job ~ I used to work for a temp service years ago. Hugs.

I hold my breath every time a house around us goes on the market. It's a quiet neighborhood. We've been here 20 years and are the "Old Gay Couple with the beautiful yards!" So I cringe when I see a For Sale sign. Luckily, our neighbors are not too obnoxious. The... MAGAts live at the bottom of our street; we know them well, but there is sufficient buffer between us and them.

When we first moved to RI, we bought a multi-family thinking it would save us money (it didn't). It was a multifamily among a block of multi-family houses. All... with basketball hoops... not one LeBron on the block. From the time the snow melted until the first flurries came down, ALL F-ING day is was "Ka-punk... ka-punkka-punkka-punk...kaBANGABANGABANGA" as each attempted basket would foul. After two years, the PTSD was quite prominent in both of us.

Moved to Tiverton. House on a CLIFF. Nary a flat spot for a hoop. Then I noticed my neighbor below us had an old hoop above the garage door the day his son (at the time home from college) decided to "shoot some hoops". Second toss. Foul shot. Ball ricocheted over the cliff side and down to the bottom of the hill (1/4 mile). 20 minutes later. Second hoop shot. Ball ricocheted off the hoop, over the cliff and back down the hill. All I heard was "Ah fuck...". The old hoop came down shortly after that. Peace returned to our little vista.

What a drag! I hope management will be able to help, when they get around to it.

OMGGGG I lived underneath the neighbors from hell back in 1989 when we first moved here. I swear they were moving FURNITURE all night long EVERY night. They eventually were evicted, and between the eviction notice and actual move out they completely trashed the apartment. It had to be taken down to the studs and remodeled. Lovely people. Gah.

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. My daughter and her hubby are in Wilsonville now, in an apartment, and they have asshole neighbors, too. It makes me angry on their behalf. Now I'm angry on your behalf, too. Best of luck getting it fixed.

Thank you all for the supportive comments. I really appreciate it.

My last e-mail to the management last night included a suggestion for how to handle the noise problem, and amazingly enough, they actually used it (no, it did not involve guillotining the other tenant). There has been no unusual noise tonight, which is a huge relief.

The temp job won't be worth as much as I hoped, but it's something. Hopefully I can get another one soon after.

Sorry to hear the new neighbors have been noisy. I've had that happen a few times. I either ask them to be quiet or write them a letter. If that didn't work, I just called the police to issue a noise complaint. Either they get less noisy, get mad or just move out. One time I called so many times they got a $200 fine.
