Since Tuesday, the Debbie-downer moan-groan-doom-gloom defeatist element that always irritatingly hovers around the liberal blogosphere has been especially active, trying to squelch any feelings of celebration because -- well, actually I don't get the "because" part. Some people seemingly can't be happy unless they've got something to feel miserable about, which is fine, but they want everyone else to be miserable too. Anyway, Steve M at No More Mister Nice Blog dissects one of these gloomfests here, using facts and logic as scalpels. It's a good read, and will give you some pointers on debunking this stuff if it shows up in your own comment threads.

Don't know if it's a defeatist attitude or simply accepting the inevitable. I mean ask this question. Has there ever in the history of the world ever been a great power that didn't fall into decline and eventual obscurity? Why would anyone think the USA would be different? History paints pretty clear pictures if we choose to read it,
Oh, for fuck's sake, give it a rest. Of course nobody expects the United States to last for all eternity. That's got nothing to do with what I'm talking about here. This particular election was a huge win and major step toward reclaiming the country from incipient fascism here in the present day -- and a lot of people had to work very hard for that win. Then people like you pop up putting the worst possible spin on it that you can possibly come up with, promoting despair and paralysis. We've had a real victory here -- that's an objective fact -- and we deserve the chance to savor it. If you insist on crapping in the punchbowl, don't be surprised if you're asked to leave the party.
Understand. Didn't mean to "crap" in the punch bowl.
Glad the House flipped. Hope it makes a positive difference and 2020 sees the senate flip as well.
Fighting cynicism is a constant battle for me in today's political environment.
When tRump is dumped I'll party for at least a month!!
