It has been my great good fortune to live my whole life free of "spirituality" of any kind. I believe that evidence and reason are the keys to understanding reality; that technology rather than ideology or politics has been the great liberator of humanity; and that in the long run, human intelligence is the most powerful force in the universe.

S.E. Smith wrote a commentary piece about the ways that September 11th shaped policy and culture, creating a very different world for today's young people.

Ahab: Good post, although actually at the time I expected the country to change a lot more than it actually ended up doing.
Shaw: Or, now, it can even fly to places we didn't know existed back when religion was in charge (Pluto).
