Conservatives in my country are also not dominated or even barely populated by religious fundamentalists. This creates a difference in my views not always fitting in with the posts here, but I'm getting better at converting the national differences and on other subjects, often meet others here quite evenly.
Woody: Culturally the US is the odd-one-out in the Western world in that fundamentalist religion is still such a big presence here. Inevitably our party system has reconfigured itself to reflect the main divide in society -- we now have essentially a theocratic party vs. a secular party, quite different from how politics works in Britain or Australia.

Individualist, pro-technology, pro-democracy, anti-religion. I speak only for myself and not for any ideology, movement, or party. It has been my great good fortune to live my whole life free of "spirituality" of any kind. I believe that evidence and reason are the keys to understanding reality; that technology rather than ideology or politics has been the great liberator of humanity; and that in the long run, human intelligence is the most powerful force in the universe.

I hope your wrist feels better soon.
Thanks! Just back from the doctor. It's tendonitis, should clear up in a few days.
