Video of the week -- lord of evil

Some people really, desperately need something to be frightened of. Found via Hello Mr. President.

All of my childhood, and even into adulthood, has been spent fighting off these fears my parents and a few siblings are fine with throwing at me. I'm accused of burying my head in the sand because I don't want to hear about End Times, sins, the Book of Revelation... they all just LOVE talking about it! Well, now I have just one brother left who loves talking about it ;)

That video is sickening and so representative of the Religious Right and their infiltration into our politics by way of Bachmann, Palin, Perry, Santorum, Gingrich...

A sickening situation -- well, at least Bachmann has now had to pack her tinfoil hat and go home.

Frightened, under-educated people will always default to blaming their fantasies for their fears. Easier to do that than to look within themselves to discover the basis for their personal demons.

Many of these unfortunates have a strangle hold on the GOP. Rick Santorum comes to mind. He won't be the nominee or president, but it is depressing to see that someone of his limited intellect and over-abundant superstitions can come so far as to be taken seriously as a candidate for the presidency.

Another example of how far we have fallen.

I blame Bush.

I investigated the website that featured the video, blowthetrumpet.org.

I read their page that list their beliefs, and stopped after reading this:

"Clean and Unclean Meats

We believe God has an opinion on every aspect of a Christian’s life, including their diet. Furthermore, we believe God designed certain plants and animals to be consumed by man while others are to be avoided.

To this end, God created specific laws concerning clean and unclean meats. We believe that although these laws pertain to that which is physical, their purpose is profoundly spiritual. We believe that in these laws God is illustrating that He makes a distinction between the holy and the profane. By doing this, God wants man to know that we are to be holy, even as He is holy.

We believe the laws concerning clean and unclean meats were given before the flood, were restored to the congregation in the wilderness, were honored by God’s people in the Old Testament, and were kept by Jesus Christ, His apostles and all of the New Testament churches.

We further believe that these laws serve a very important purpose for God’s people. They are designed to be a daily reminder that God’s children must make a distinction between the clean and the unclean – the holy and the profane – as it pertains to their conduct. Blow the Trumpet honors God’s instruction concerning clean and unclean meats."

I'm not laughing, just shaking my head over how humans conceive their gods--petty, jealous tyrants.

Poor education and the fundie wingnuttery it promotes are an endemic problem, unfortunately. We can't stop people from believing these things but we can at least try to make them aware of how silly they sound.

Wow, talk about weird obsessions. Ted Haggard was into blowing a trumpet of unclean meat, wasn't he? Or something like that.
