An odd habit

Why do some people refer to the Persian language as "Farsi" when they're speaking English? We don't refer to German, French, Arabic, and Japanese as Deutsch, Français, Arabiyyah, and Nihongo when we're speaking English.

In that case, if we do keep calling it "Farsi", then the terrorists win!

As a compromise, when being spoken ex cathedra by mullahs, ayatollahs, and Ahmadinezhad, it should be called "Farsi-cal".
