Trump posted an incredibly childish "AI"-generated video of himself dumping shit on the protests from a fighter plane.
Organizers estimate total nationwide turnout at almost seven million which, if true, would be one out of every fifty people in the country. An independent crowd-counting group gives an estimate of a little over five million, with a maximum possible figure of eight million. The Trumpazoids are worried, and rightly so.

I hope the resistance gathers even more momentum. /AC
GOOD!
I am not going to comment on his childish AI garbage. It's all he has left; something some dumb-fuck Tech bro showed his team how to use; he doesn't realize we can up the AI revolt against him. And I am sure someone will.
Compliments to our American friends... When's the next march? ๐
I find it stunning that there are still people who support Trump. I have FAMILY members who think he's 'a great man'. And when something he's done comes up, it's always, "Well BIDEN did ____." As if that equalizes anything.
This is very interesting, and it is also sad to say, I had not given this much thought until I read about it here. Thank you for sharing this enlightenment and your POV. I definitely should keep myself more informed. Thanks to you I'll try to become more aware. Wishing you well, my friend. Have a wonderful Week!
Hopefully the resistance to Trump will keep increasing until he's forced out of office. He thinks he can get away with anything but he'll meet his come uppance eventually.
AC: I think the momentum is going pretty well.
Rade: That video was unbelievably infantile. Can you imagine any other president we've had posting such a thing?
Anon: Not sure when the next one will be. They seem to come typically three months or so apart.
Ami: That's the thing. With a lot of them, it's not that they think Trump is so great, it's that they think the Democrats are worse -- which frankly is understandable in some cases. Even among those who think Trump is doing a good job, a lot of them are getting all their news from biased sources which don't talk about things like tariffs affecting inflation or the damage he's doing to the economy. A lot of people on the far left do the same thing and are similarly unaware of information that doesn't fit their preferred narrative.
Dellgirl: Thanks! I'm always glad when I can be informative.
Nick: Unfortunately our system doesn't have many mechanisms for forcing a president out of office, and those mechanisms in practice require the cooperation of both parties. Impeachment requires a simple majority of the House of Representatives, plus two-thirds of the Senate to actually remove the president. The 25th Amendment (removing the president due to disability or mental incompetence) requires two-thirds of the House and two-thirds of the Senate. So neither of those things could be done without support from plenty of Republicans. And I think he's very unlikely to just resign due to psychological pressure the way Nixon did.
In fact, the way his mind and health seem to be deteriorating, I'll be surprised if Trump is still alive a year from now. If he dies in office, Vance will become president, with consequences that are hard to predict.
I didn't go but all the pictures sure looks like there was a good turn out everywhere.
The problem with these mass marches is that they take an enormous amount of people power to bring them together. That's why they're not as frequent as people would like. But there are increasingly more spontaneous demonstrations in response to federal overreach, and plans are percolating for boycotts and other pocketbook actions.
G. Elliot Morris, from Strength in Numbers, which you link to, assesses protests from the beginning of Trump 2.0. On that basis, he states that 3.7% of Americans have been protesting. According to Erica Chenoweth and others at Harvard who have been studying efforts that successfully end authoritarian rule for years, when 3.5% of the public is involved in sustained, growing, nonviolent demonstrations, they eventually succeed in ending the oppression.
So we're on the right track.
Mary: If the organizers' estimate of seven million is correct, it was the largest nationwide demonstration since 1970.
Annie: Indeed, they wouldn't want to try doing something like this every week or two. Attendance would drop off quickly, plus the impact would be dulled by familiarity.
Pocketbook actions can be very effective. Right now I'd like to see every air traffic controller call in sick. Let the commercial aviation system completely collapse until Congress re-opens the damn government.
A few months back I linked to a debunking of that claim that a movement that mobilizes 3.5% of the population always succeeds, but I don't remember the details. It doesn't make sense to me, anyway. There must be plenty of cases where two opposing movements each mobilize more people than that, and they can't both win. I'm sure the abortion-rights movement and the anti-abortion movement each have the fervent support of a lot more than 3.5% of the population, for example.
There was a good turn out in my town and throughout SE Michigan. Kalamazoo, by the way, is in a fairly red part of our state. So, itโs great that they had a solid showing.
Thanks for the info -- I didn't know that about Kalamazoo. There seems to have been a good turnout in a lot of red areas.
