Videos of the day -- the [C]Rapture

It was just an ordinary day, you ridiculous dumbasses.  If you gave away your property, quit your job, and burned your money (!) on the basis of faith, and now you're stuck with the mess you created, tough shit.  Stupidity has consequences.

Still, I have to hand it to the guy at 27:15-31:38 in the third video.  He's very close to actually getting it.

I have no words, but I will offer this; if any of your followers feel another rapture coming on, and they want to get rid of ALL their finances and property, please contact me - I'll be glad to take it all off their hands. Quickly and no questions asked. and "Jezuz love you; God Bless."

You know... this could become a nice source of retirement income!

...not letting me post multiple comments...

Wow! That blonde boy in the first video at around 12:15 talking about the naked lady outside his apartment; HOT but as the saying goes, coming off dumb as a bag of rocks. It's like "Honey, shut your pie hole and just work the looks."

Watching these videos and it just struck me that... these are all from social media, all on the Internet... you mean they just can't get beyond their bubble and back into reality? Even with all this technology, literally a man-made, science based invention, in their own hands, they still believe only in the bullshit of religion? Wow... just wow...

I don't understand why they sold and quit everything - did they think they would need money in heaven?? I guess I should watch the videos and see if they explain it to me.

Yup. And...how come they forgot what Christ said in the Gospels--about how you will neither know the day nor the hour when he will return?

(Funny story--I had to call out sick from work that Tuesday and I joked when I came back that I hoped no one thought I was raptured....)

One of my friends posted a rapture badge of sorts on social media. Something about surviving 9 almost-raptures so the 10th is free.

I was force-fed The Late Great Planet Earth in Church and Sunday school. Even back then, when I was fully indoctrinated and would never have believed otherwise, the whole rapture things struck me as jarringly different than the other drivel we were taught. It's only been a couple weeks since I learned how recently the idea of THE RAPTURE was invented.

Amazing how many people continue to fall for this same story. Sell their stuff or give it away and then are surprised when it doesn't happen.

How does someone get to that state of mind?

I commented before watching the videos. My personal favorite is all the people standing in the forest screaming, because you know, if you want to attract attention, that's a great way to do it. He might come get you first just to shut you up!
I also am contemplating the fact that I no longer know a bunch of crazy evangenital Christians, so I didn't get a new vehicle or a free house or a bunch of money from anyone and it's not fair, dammit. Not fair.

Rade: I had that thought too. I don't seem to know anybody this dumb, unfortunately.

Anon: Remember, these aren't typical Christians, they're a small minority. We're looking at the extreme dumb/delusional end of the bell-shaped curve here. Some people are so unaware that they just take technology as a given, something that's just there, like the weather. They don't realize that it is only made possible by the scientific world-view.

Lady M: Some of them sold everything and gave away the money, or burned it. None of them seem to have thought this through very clearly.

Marc: That's the weird part. These prophecies about specific dates conflict with what's in their own Bible. Obviously those who do this stuff either don't read the Bible or don't understand it.

Ami: I don't really understand it either. When I'm contemplating some really drastic action, I always consider it carefully, including the possibility that I might be acting on the basis of false premises. It would be foolish not to. Certainly before doing all these crazy things, you'd think these people would at least double-check that the prophecy has some plausible basis in the Bible they claim to believe in, rather than taking the word of some guy on TikTok or whatever. But they come from a subculture that clearly doesn't emphasize critical thinking or logic.

Ami: It's very strange, the specific things some people thought they had to do to make sure they were taken. God doesn't know who is worthy and where they are? Same with going outside. Surely God could get them past a mere roof easily enough? And the taking clothes off is just weird. Some subconscious exhibitionistic drive, maybe.

Interesting point about having no forewarning.

I agree with the woman in the beginning that these people need help, but sometimes no amount of help will convince people to leave their cocoon of fantasy. Reality is somehow too scary for them. They find it far more comforting to believe in myth. CAS

I suppose it's comforting to think they'll be swept up to Heaven and not have to deal with Earthly problems any more. To me the Christian concept of Heaven sounds really dull, though.

Good grief, I still have a hard time imaging that anyone really thought this was real and a "Rapture" was going to happen.

It is mind-boggling. These people are the most gullible people on Earth other than conspiracy-theory believers.

Oh dear.

Those poor people.

The rapture is a modern problem of Christianity - and especially with evangelical christianity.

On the one hand, the Bible speaks of the second coming of christ. On the other, no-one knows when and Christ said it cannot be predicted. Though, of course, it was supposed to be imminent? Throw in human need for attention, delusion, exploitation and/or cults, and you get trouble.

Also, I know at least 2 self-styled Christians who tell me (v. seriously) about their random dreams being a message from God telling them something, or something of importance and meaning. There is just so much of what we conventionally regard as being religious doctrine when in fact it’s like Satan has horns - it’s a popular idea which stemmed from another culture which has then morphed into our own.

Modern Christians have thought up all kinds of things that would have astonished Jesus, that's for sure. Religions are essentially mental viruses that evolve over time to fit the environment, but some of this stuff is just bizarre.

I think Jesus said that many of the people listening to him would still be alive when his second coming happened. I assume all those people are dead now.

The idea that dreams are portents, or messages form some kind of spiritual world, exists in a lot of cultures and has no doubt lead to huge amounts of dangerous stupidity all by itself. I wonder how many innocent people have been executed just because the king had a dream that they were disloyal.
