The Day of Action

Tesla Takedown's "Day of Action" yesterday seems to have been fairly successful, with more than two hundred events at Tesla showrooms, within the US and globally.  Turnout typically ranged from around twenty-five to a hundred and fifty people per location, up to several hundred in the largest cities, totaling in the tens of thousands world-wide.  Obviously one would have hoped for more people, but it made for a reasonably effective show of power.

Here in the Portland area, protests were well attended -- pics and video hereThis is Cincinnati.  Tesla Takedown's own Bluesky account has pictures from many other cities.  More reports here and here.

There were reports of threats, harassment, and doxing against Tesla Takedown organizers -- but evidently these achieved nothing.  This illustrates the importance of decentralization, and of eliminating or minimizing the concept of "leaders".  Once the Day of Action event had been announced and widely publicized, there was no one who could have called it off, even if they had wanted to.

Of course, as I explained here, single-day events pale in effectiveness compared with sustained, long-term boycotts.  Yesterday was indeed a valuable display of public enthusiasm, but it's really the ongoing global rejection of Tesla that will bring Musk down.

If you really want some inspirational reading in these depressing times, read this.  Tesla is massively overvalued.  Due to Musk's all-hat-no-cattle leadership, its technology increasingly lags behind competitors.  And his wealth is utterly dependent on the stock, most of which is now collateralized for loans he has used to make various other acquisitions.  It's a house of cards which will totally collapse if the stock price falls below a certain point, leaving him ruined.  Keep up the pressure -- we can and will defeat the man responsible for most of the damage done since January 20.

It would be wonderful if this evaluation became reality. Perhaps that's why Musk has adopted the US budget as his own. The contracts he's won aren't enough (and some have been questioned); he wants Uncle Sam to be his personal piggybank.

Thank you for the optimism and... better news.

There was a time when I sort of admired Musk; probably up to a dozen or so years ago. Today, I just look forward to seeing his downfall. I hope it is swift and severe and something that he won't readily recover from.

Annie: We'll see. I think we're going to bring him down yet.

Rade: It's important to keep the positive side in mind. Our brains are hard-wired to dwell on the negative, but that just leads to despair, which leads to inaction.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that his house of cards collapses very soon. BTW, I'm attending the "Hands Off!" rally April 5.

It would be good if Musk's arrogance and megalomania ended in financial ruin. He's insufferable.

Ricko: I'm hoping it's soon too. There may be a sudden collapse at some point, if other shareholders start to panic.

Nick: It's amazing how obnoxious he manages to be.
