Video of the day -- "To hell with the pearl!"
I love this conversation. It's from Joseph Losey's 1975 film Galileo, adapted from the play by Bertolt Brecht. Watch from the beginning of the video to the 8:30 mark.
The world is full of fascinating things that have nothing to do with politics

The entire film can be found on YouTube in 10 parts. I look forward to watching it.
Year ago I read Dava Sobel's wonderful "Galileo's Daughter." Much of it is based on correspondence between Galileo and his daughter, Maria Celeste, who entered a convent, and who was, according to Galileo, the most intelligent of his three children.
I highly recommend it.
Thanks. I've seen the full film and it has a lot of impressive moments -- this part is particularly full of resonances for our own time.
