Defiling the dead

A little over four years after the death of Christopher Hitchens, a Christian author* has written a scurrilous book claiming that the great atheist contemplated conversion to Christianity on his deathbed.

They cannot stop lying about us even when we are gone.

Never mind that Hitchens achieved more in exposing and tearing down the evil of religion than almost any other contemporary figure.  Never mind that he was the author of God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything, one of the seminal New Atheist books, and that he was the man with the guts to expose even Mother Teresa for the monster she was.  Never mind that his wife, who was with him when he died, says that he never converted or contemplated doing so and that he remained himself to the last.

Religionists lie.  If they will sink this low, there is no lie they will not tell.  Keep that in mind whenever they speak.

The religionists defiled Hitchens while he was alive, so it's not surprising to hear them continuing to do so posthumously, when he can't defend himself.

Every poll taken on millennials shows that they are not as religious as their parents, and that frightens the folks who seek to control through religion.

It appears religion in the US will go the way of religion in the UK, the rest of Europe and Scandinavia:

Estimated atheism rates in Norway range from 31 to 72%

Atheism and agnosticism are widespread in Swedish society. In a Eurobarometer Poll in 2010, just 18% of Swedish citizens responded that "they believe there is a god"

According to the most recent Eurobarometer Poll (2010),
33% of Finnish citizens "believe there is a God". (In 2005, the figure was 41%)

28% of Danish citizens responded that "they believe there is a God",

One of the highest commandments of Christian faith is "You shall not bear false witness."

And yet they do. They lie and they continue to lie because they fear that the Truth will undermine their own self-worth and their ability to shill their own twisted view of faith.

And we dare not call them on it, because then it becomes persecution, because then they can martyr themselves.

I'd say that they're not worth it... except for the fact that these liars of faith are dangerous, always so.

Well those stats are all over the place. An awful lot depends on how one defines God.

But the important point, perhaps, is that here in the UK whilst I have no idea how many people believe in God for whatever definition very few take God seriously. Mainly on the more ridiculous points. Obviously, un-baptised heathen that I am, I believe "thou shalt not steal" but nobody really thinks theft is wrong because of a load of folk-tales from the Bronze Age.

Shaw: Exactly. It's like with Galileo -- they can insult and defame him all they like, but he's winning the argument.

Paul: When a religion can't be propped up without lying, that kind of tells you what you need to know.

Nick: Once the discussion has to include things like "how one defines God", we've pretty much won. True believers know perfectly well what they mean by "God".

Hitchens made a similar point -- humanity would never have survived if people before the invention of Abrahamic religions had had no idea that theft, murder, etc. were "wrong".

You know ... I think that's bull, I noticed too, that every time some non- believer of their faith, it seems there is alwayz some kind of death bed testimonial, I mean ... is it like christians just run to the beds of non- believers when they hear they are dying and and try to hustle a testimony out of them? I had an accident when I was young once in the hospital and a priest asked me if I want to share or whatever ... I said no thanx. They also have on YouTube saying that Anton LaVey begged christains for forgiveness or some crap on his dying bed ... this is nothing but CTV (christian tele crap) for entertainment.
