The Nazi's at the Tulsa airport just get off on screaming orders. Of course the vast majority of them are female...short and very rotund..so I am sure they have their own issues. Sick bitches. It was very hard not to go batshit crazy on the one I got the last time I flew.
At least, a screening experience like this would make the airport experience less boring.
Yeah, that video is a hoot and probably reflects some people's dark thoughts about airport screening.
Putting my devil's advocate hat on for a moment, I'll bet a bunch of those screeners would tell you a very different story. I'll bet most of them quickly become sick to death of having to interact with paranoid passengers; get up close and personal with people who bathe once a month whether they need to or not; parents with screaming tots or a baby with a loaded diaper; and older folks who make them repeat everything six times, that the last thing on their mind is steamy sex in the workplace. ;)
DHMVB: Yes, obviously common-garden abuse of authority happens a lot more than actual sexual molestation. Both are unacceptable. The song naturally chooses the most outrageous possibilities to make for an arresting attack parody.
Blurber: True, boredom wouldn't be an issue.
SWA: Obviously not all TSA screeners abuse their authority, but there are plenty who do (see DHMVB above, for example). In any case the whole system is an outrageous imposition on the public, and there's no evidence at all that it makes flying any safer. It's theater. And it deserves to be attacked.
I agree that there's a strong element of theater involved. And yet, it seems like one of those things that needs to be done because, even if they come up with little or nothing 99.5 percent of the time, to not do screening would seemingly be to invite someone to board a plane armed or with a bomb, or something like that, maybe a terrorist, maybe just a nut case.
SWA: Wrong. They don't "come up with little or nothing 99.5 percent of the time". There's no evidence that security theater has ever stopped a single terrorist attack. In cases where people have tried to smuggle weapons through TSA check-points as unannounced tests of the system, they are able to get them through without trouble. Terrorists undoubtedly know all this. Most other countries don't use such silly theatrics. (Israel uses profiling, which actually does work, and which we refuse to do.) It's not that security theater does only a tiny amount of good. It does no good at all, and the cost -- in money, in wasted time, in abuse and humiliation and invasion of privacy, and in conditioning the public to tolerate abuse from authority -- is enormous.
