And recent investigations by the Canadian Government revealed that the Residential Schools program for First Nations children wasn't just an attempt at cultural genocide, but actually amounted to genocide as 40% death rates were not uncommon in some schools. More than half of the schools, and some of the most abusive, were operated by the Catholic Church. What is it with these people? This is even worse than the septic tank full of dead babies in Tuam, Ireland.
Looks like Fry won decisively. I can't say I disagree with anything he said. The new pope seems a bit better, still the church has a very long way to go on these issues. The church's unwavering stance against condoms is killing people and burdening poor women with more children than they an afford. At least there seems to be a small change in rhetoric, if not in actual doctrine, in regards to gay people.
Bacopa: I hadn't heard about that, but I'm not surprised. The Catholic Church seems to spread death and misery everywhere it goes -- especially to children.
Dervish: With such an open-and-shut case, and with Fry and Hitchens to present it, our side would have won in the eyes of pretty much any audience outside the Vatican.

Individualist, pro-technology, pro-democracy, anti-religion. I speak only for myself and not for any ideology, movement, or party. It has been my great good fortune to live my whole life free of "spirituality" of any kind. I believe that evidence and reason are the keys to understanding reality; that technology rather than ideology or politics has been the great liberator of humanity; and that in the long run, human intelligence is the most powerful force in the universe.
