Up Helly Aa

Impressive photos of the Viking-themed "fire festival" of Up Helly Aa in Lerwick in the Shetland Islands north of Scotland. Note the participation of the area's MP ("Member of Parliament", roughly equivalent to a Congressman), evidently undeterred by the event's obvious pagan undertones.

Beautiful thing to see, what's happening in those photos. And the photos themselves are stunning. Can't you just picture Orrin Hatch taking part in a fire festival? ;) Hope you don't mind if I link after dropping my kid off.

Aren't the pics great? I only wish they were bigger.

The only fire festival I can imagine some of our more cramped-minded leaders participating in would be a book-burning, unfortunately (not so single out Hatch specifically).

You're always welcome to link to things here!
